About Counselling
I trained as a Person-Centred counsellor (a form of humanistic therapy), graduating with an MA in Counselling from the University of East Anglia. The Person-Centred approach is based on the work of Carl Rogers, and I choose this way of working because it is gentle, non-intrusive, and highly respective of the individual’s own capacity for growth and healing.
I will offer you:
- An empathic relationship. I will not judge you or give you advice.
- A safe, confidential space to talk about anything that’s bugging you (and the things that aren’t too).
- A chance to explore yourself and your emotions, and to discover what they mean
- A therapy that is ‘wellness’ oriented rather than ‘illness’ oriented. By this I mean that I see mental distress as an indicator of blocked potential rather than of a problem that needs ‘fixing’.
I have a BA in English Literature and I find this both informs and complements my psychotherapy work. I continue to find inspiration in great writing and am fascinated by the power of poetic metaphor and imagery to evoke emotion and stimulate memory.
I am a Licensed Practitioner for the Understanding Your Eating programme. This is a 5 week programmed designed to specifically tackle the issues that lay behind emotional over eating. Please click on the link to find out more understandingyoureating.co.uk
